Find out more about hydrotherapy here
Inglis Vets Healthy Pets is the first purpose built health centre for pets in Scotland. One of the many bespoke services we offer is Hydrotherapy.
Hydrotherapy is a form of exercise carried out in warm water (29-30°C) which gives increased circulation to muscles, increases joint flexibility and reduces joint pain.
Hydrotherapy, in conjunction with veterinary treatment, can significantly improve the quality and rate of healing following surgery or traumatic injury. After surgery, careful use of hydrotherapy can help with rehabilitation and increase the chance of a successful return to full fitness. It’s also a fantastic way of significantly improving mobility for arthritic patients.
Hydrotherapy has specific therapeutic effects on the body, including:
At Inglis we use an underwater treadmill which provides us with better control over the movement of your dog in the water, the water height varies depending on the condition and breed of your dog.
Appointments are 45 minutes long, however swimming time can range from a couple of minutes up to the maximum of 25 minutes. The length of time depends on the type of injury or condition your dog has and their fitness level.
The first session is charged individually and normally lasts around 60 minutes. All further sessions following the initial consultation last for 45 minutes and can be purchased in bulk. Many insurance providers will cover hydrotherapy, however we would advise clients to check their policy details as each company will be different.
All sessions must be paid in full at the time of the appointment and insurance claims will be made payable directly to client. Inglis Vets Care Plan discounts will also be applied where applicable.
On the day of your hydrotherapy appointment, please do not feed your dog for two hours before and ensure they have been to the toilet prior to their visit.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly team on 01383 734 380. You can also email us directly at healthypets@inglisvets.com.
All pets who undergo hydrotherapy must be referred by a vet.
